Postgraduate Research Global Update as of June 2025

Our unique Pulse trackers and Share of Search data provide insights on thousands of prospective students interested in Global PhD opportunities. As of June 2025, we’re seeing that:

• Interest in US research continues to fall from all tracked audiences, though it remains a top 5 destination for each. Conversely, interest in Canada is starting to see signs of a recovery following falling interest through much of the previous 12 months.
  
  
• Around half of western audiences (Europe and North America) are seeking some form of flexibility. African and Asian audiences are much more likely to seek on campus research opportunities.
  
  
• Autumn 2025 continues to be the focus for many audiences considering European study; however, more than half of those seeking to study in the Netherlands, Canada and the USA are now looking to Spring 2026 and beyond.
  
  
• Fields of Biological research remain popular across most of our tracked destinations - with Molecular Biology proving to be extremely popular in Ireland, Germany and Australia - but fields of Computer Science and Engineering remain more sought after in the USA.
